Labia Majoraplasty – Majora Augmentation

Although sometimes a labia majoraplasty may require excision of excess skin to lift the labia, often the underlying etiology is loss of volume. The procedure to address lost volume is a majora augmentation. The goal is to add back volume lost due to the natural aging process.

Dr. Desrosiers is a pioneer in labia majora augmentation. He wrote a landmark article in 2012 published in the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. Click the link below to see the full article.

Who is a good candidate for a labia majora augmentation?

Patients who are bothered by loss of volume in the labia majora may be a good candidate for labia majora augmentation.

With the natural process of maturation, there’s a decline of collagen and elastin and a decrease in glycosaminoglycan and fat volume in many areas of the body. Although people most commonly think of this process happening in the face, it also happens to the labia majora. These skin changes may be exacerbated by pregnancy or weight gain and loss.

Labia majora augmentation can be performed in conjunction with labia minora reduction procedure.

How is a labia majora augmentation performed?

The two common ways of augmenting the labia are using fat transfer or injection of off-the-shelf fat matrix (Renuva/Leneva). Fat transfer may done at the same time as liposuction (analogous to a BBL). In this case, the fat is injected into the labia majora with a small blunt tipped cannula . Fat transfer can also occur at the same time as a mini-tummy tuck or full abdominoplasty. In this scenario, the skin is epithelized and then the dermal-fat graft is passed through a small incision to augment the majora . If injections of Renuva/Leneva are elected, labia augmentation is a lunch time procedure – similar to other filler injections such as Juvederm.

For patients that prefer a female provider, Marquis has a female physician assistant and a female nurse practitioner who have been trained (by Dr. Desrosiers) to perform Renuva/Leneva injections for labia majora augmentation.

How long do the results last?

Whether performed with fat transfer or off-the-shelf adipose matrix (Leneva/Renuva), the results of a labia majora augmentation are designed to be long-lasting / semi-permanent. However, if you lose weight (or gain weight), you will lose fat (or gain it) everywhere – including in the labia majora.
